Gift 108
GIFT (Global Initiative For Transformation) represents a group of like-minded friends from around the world with a vision of providing sanitation and safe drinking water for all in need…
We believe in working together towards the sole purpose of transforming ‘Charity of Convenience’ into ‘Charity of Need’. At present, we are adopting and funding specific projects co-ordinated by Wherever the Need (WTN), focusing on the African continent, where we believe the need is greatest.
The project we have chosen provides water and ecosan toilets for a community of 600 people, who live in a village called Sahun in south eastern Sierra Leone. It will cost about £10,000 to provide two wells and four ecosan toilets. At the moment there is no sanitation at all, and access to only one well which is located outside the village. The community currently survive on subsistence agriculture, and have recently suffered the trauma of 20 houses being destroyed by a bushfire. The poverty and conditions they live in are hard for us to imagine in the 21st Century.
The foundation of any community, school, family or individual must be good health. You cannot do anything without it. If you are sick, you simply don’t operate at anything close to your potential. Research from every quarter clearly shows that sanitation and clean water are the fundamentals to good health. Interestingly, sanitation is more important than clean water according to all the research programmes, but the two items go hand in hand.
Please have a look at the rest of the WTN website to see what they do. They are a small charity that achieves huge things. If you can, please donate.
We represent our main method of sustained funding with a minimum individual donation of £1.08 by monthly standing order. We are aspiring to work with a large number of people, thus generating a steady monthly flow of donations to sustain and expand on the selected projects. We say that however small a donation may be, it will be treated with the utmost respect and the donor will be kept informed of its needful use.
As service starts at home, we wish to create an awareness amongst local communities on the importance of this ‘Charity of Need’. We wish to create many opportunities for people to come together locally and work globally towards the noble vision of providing safe drinking water and sanitation for all.
