Ellaikudi Primary School
Ellaikudi school in Tamil Nadu had no sanitation facilities for the children, which meant they had no option but to use the field and river behind the school as a toilet. This was polluting the river, which is used as drinking and bathing water by many people. The pupils now have an eco-sanitation unit, with separate areas for boys and girls to provide the privacy the children deserve. The staff now have their own ecosan as well, as their sanitation facilities were in a state of disrepair.
